About Course

This brief online Arabic grammar course introduces students to Istifhām (interrogation/questioning), one of the most important and frequently occurring structures in the Arabic language. Designed for students with a basic knowledge of Arabic grammar, the course explores how questions are formed and used in both everyday Arabic and classical texts.

Students will study the major particles and nouns of Istifhām, including words such as هَلْ, أَ, مَنْ, مَا, مَاذَا, مَتَى, أَيْنَ, كَيْفَ, أَنَّى, أَيَّانَ, and كَمْ. The course examines their meanings, grammatical functions, and the contexts in which they are used. Learners will also explore the difference between questions that seek information and rhetorical questions that serve purposes such as emphasis, rebuke, affirmation, or reflection.

Through clear explanations, practical examples, and guided sentence analysis, students will learn how to identify, interpret, and construct various types of interrogative expressions. Examples from the Qur’an, Hadith, and standard Arabic texts will be used to demonstrate the richness and versatility of Istifhām in authentic language.

By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of Arabic interrogative structures and will be able to recognize their grammatical and rhetorical functions with greater confidence.
